WWE Backlash (2025) – Results: Winners, Ratings, and Highlights

WWE Backlash (2025) is the 20th annual Backlash that took place at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. This is also the last time John Cena was a part of WWE Backlash as part of Cena’s farewell tour, which will continue till the end of 2025.

Jacob Fatu (c) vs. LA Knight vs. Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre – Fatal Four-way match for the WWE United States Championship

WWE Backlash kicked off with Jacob Fatu, who was set to defend his United States Championship against LA Knight, Damian Priest, and Drew McIntyre in a Fatal Four-way match.

All four men took the fight to each other, leaving every kind of friendship out of the ring. The problem between Priest and McIntyre was on full display, which allowed Knight and Fatu to take advantage on multiple occasions. Priest also hit McIntyre with a South of Heaven chokeslam on top of the table, which took them both out.

Sikoa then also arrived on the scene alongside a new Bloodline member to help Fatu against Knight, who then retained his Championship.

Lyra Valkyria (c) vs. Becky Lynch – WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship

After weeks and weeks of chaos, Becky Lynch then challenged Lyra Valkyria for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. Both Valkyria and Lynch brought the best themself to the fight, giving everything they had.

Lynch exposed the turnbuckle to use it to her advantage, which distracted the referee and delayed the three count for Valkyria. Lynch then hit the eye of Valkyria, but she still managed to pin Lynch and retain her championship.

Lynch then continued to attack Valkyria after the match as the referees tried to stop her.

Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Penta – WWE Intercontinental Championship

After one of the biggest victories of his career at WrestleMania 41, Dominik Mysterio now has to go through Penta to continue his reign as Intercontinental Champion.

Mysterio and Penta delivered an incredible fight until all of the Judgement Day arrived and the ringside. Balor continued to help Mysterio until El Grande Americano attacked Penta, which allowed Mysterio to retain.

Pat McAfee vs. Gunther at WWE Backlash

After losing his World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41, Gunther confronted and attacked both Pat McAfee and Michael Cole, saying that they had disrespected him. McAfee then stood up to Gunther for his action, which led to this singles match between them.

Gunther dominated McAfee throughout the match as he tried to stay in and fight back. Gunther also dragged Cole into the ring as he continued to attack McAfee.

He then locked McAfee in the sleeper hold to win the match.

Result: Gunther defeated Pat McAfee

John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton – Undisputed WWE Championship

After winning his 17th World Championship at WrestleMania 41, John Cena now finds himself against Randy Orton to write one last chapter in their long-historic rivalry.

Orton took the fight to Cena while he tried to run away, doing the opposite of what he used to do once. Cena and Orton both countered each other’s finishers throughout the match. They even knock off the referee, which opened the room for more shenanigans. Orton got really close to the victory before Cena hit a referee with the Championship belt, knocking him off once again.

GM Nick Aldis then came down to the ring with a bunch of officials as Orton hit them all with RKO. Orton then went for a Punt kick on Cena before R-Truth came into the ring — trying to save Cena. Cena took advantage and hit Orton with a low blow, followed by the Championship to his face to win the match.
