WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Ratings, and Highlights From Mar. 28

With WrestleMania 41 now on the horizon, things are about to get really ugly between all the superstars here on WWE SmackDown as we have headed to O2 Arena in London, England.

Announced in advance of Friday’s show:

• Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk set to sign contract for their WrestleMania 41 match
• LA Knight vs. Braun Strowman – United States Championship
• The Street Profits vs. Pretty Deadly – Tag Team Championship

WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes kicked off the WWE SmackDown to talk about his WrestleMania 41 opponent before Randy Orton arrived on the scene as well. Orton took everyone on a little history ride talking about how Rhodes entered the WWE and then went on the change the entire business forever.

Orton told Rhodes that he will beat John Cena at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas and when the dust clears he is going to tell Rhodes — face-to-face that he is coming for that championship. Drew McIntyre then arrived on the scene asking Orton about what he has done for far since retuning to the WWE, aksing him to get in the back of the line.

McIntyre then warned Orton about his injured back as Rhodes and Orton attacked McIntyre before he managed to escape them both.

The segment was mainly filled with a little history ride on the career of Rhodes but nothing much besides that.

The Street Profits (c) vs. Pretty Deadly – WWE Tag Team Championship

Pretty Deadly has been in pursuit of the WWE Tag Team Championship for weeks and weeks now. Elton Prince and Kit Wilson finally earned themself a shot at the Championship when they defeated both Motor City Machine Guns and Los Garzas in a Triple Threat match on the Mar. 7th edition of WWE SmackDown to become the No.1 contender for WWE Tag Team Championship. Meanwhile, Street Profits defeated DIY on the Mar. 14th edition of WWE SmackDown to become the new WWE Tag Team Champions — leading to this championship match between both teams.

Both teams delivered an incredibly fast-paced action match where Street Profits continued their reign after getting the victory with a Doomsday Blockbuster.

Result: The Street Profits (c) defeated Pretty Deadly to retain their WWE Tag Team Championship

Kayden Carter and Katana Chance vs. Alba Fyre and Piper Niven – Tag Team match

Zelina Vega met Chelsea Green in a backstage segment earlier on the show where Kayden Carter and Katana Chance stepped up for her — leading to this tag team match.

Carter and Chance came close to victory but Green on the ringside was a continuous threat to them as cost them the match by distracting them both and official.

Zelina Vega arrived at the ring with her friends after the match but got laid out by Green and Secret Hervice.

Result: Alba Fyre and Piper Niven defeated Kayden Carter and Katana Chance

LA Knight (c) vs. Braun Strowman – WWE United States Championship on WWE SmackDown

Braun Strowman defeated Jacob Fatu on the Mar. 21st edition of WWE SmackDown. Although the victory was earned via disqualification after he got attacked by Tama Tonga and Solo Sikoa during the match, he now challenges LA Knight for his WWE United States Championship.

Both Knight and Strowman took each other to the absolute limits before they got attacked by Fatu causing the match to end via disqualification.

Fatu continued to attack both Strowman and Knight after the match as he took them both out.

Result: Braun Strowman defeated LA Knight via disqualification
Ratings: 6.5 /10

Key Notes and Observation:

• Joe Tessitore on the commentary desk also announced that “Timeless” by Playboi Carti & The Weeknd is the official theme song for WrestleMania 41.

Backstage segment ft. Jimmy Uso on WWE SmackDown

Jimmy Uso then appeared in a backstage segment with Jackie Redmond saying that he’ll beat Gunther on this upcoming WWE Raw and that his brother Jey Uso would also beat him at WrestleMania 41 to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Jimmy then met the Miz and Carmelo Hayes where Miz told him that he and his brother Jey would never be able to beat Gunther. Jimmy then challenged Miz to a match later on the show.

Backstage segment ft. The Bloodline

Jacob Fatu then met Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga who told them that he would bring the United States Championship to the family. It doest matter if they help him or not.

Backstage segment ft. Naomi & Jade Cargill

Naomi then appeared in a pre-recorded segment where she talked about her history with Bianca Belair, saying that she was the one to inspire her long before Cargill came into WWE. She also warned Cargill using her new signature dialogue, saying that she need to process caution if she want to continue to be in her way.

Cargill then appeared in a backstage segment with GM Nick Aldis saying that she will attack her the moment she sees her. She then met Michin and B-Fab who told her that Naomi deserved everything she did to her.

Michin vs. Charlotte Flair

Michin then appeared for a singles match against Charlotte Flair but was attacked by Naomi as soon as he entered the ring. Naomi continued her assault on both Michin and B-Fab before Jade Cargill arrived to save them and she ran away.

Flair then appeared on the scene for her match against Michin who already suffered an attack. Michin tried to put a fight against the Queen but couldn’t get the win.

Result: Charlotte Flair defeated Michin

Backstage segment ft. Tiffany Stratton

Tiffany Stratton then appeared in a backstage segment saying Charlotte Flair has way more to lose at WrestleMania 41 than her.

Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton on WWE SmackDown

After meeting earlier on the show, Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton then faced each other in a singles match. Both McIntyre and Orton delivered a great match.

Kevin Owens arrived on the ringside during the match which distracted Orton for just a slight moment. McIntyre took the advantage and won the match.

Owens then continued to attack Orton after the match. He tried to hit Orton with another Package piledriver but didn’t work out. Orton then tried to hit Owens with a Punt kick before he ran away too.

Result: Drew McIntyre defeated Randy Orton
Ratings: 7 /10

Cinematic segment ft. Rey Fenix

WWE SmackDown then featured a cinematic segment unveiling the upcoming debut of Rey Fenix here on WWE SmackDown next week.

Jimmy Uso vs. The Miz

After crossing paths earlier on WWE SmackDown, Jimmy Uso and The Miz faced each other in a singles match. Jimmy put up a great fight and picked up the win over the Miz.

Jimmy then took to the mic after the match calling out his Monday’s opponent Gunther.

Result: Jimmy Uso defeated The Miz

Backstage segment ft. Drew McIntyre on WWE SmackDown

After picking the win over Randy Orton, Drew McIntyre appeared in a backstage interview segment saying Damian Priest was nowhere to be seen tonight.

Priest was just waiting on the other side of the door as he began his assault on McIntyre, hitting him with a South of Heaven Chokeslam on the windshield of a car in the parking area.

Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk sign contract for their WrestleMania 41 match

Ahead of their triple threat match at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas — Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk met each other one more time in the same ring as they signed the official contract for their match.

Reigns arrived on the scene first and signed the contract for himself while the whole of London sang for him. Seth Rollins then arrived on the scene, offering the mic to Paul Heyman to sing his song along with the fans. The two had a little argument over the past, as Rollins signed the contract as well. CM Punk then arrived on the scene as well looking to sign the contract. Heyman then told Punk that his dream of main-eventing had come true.

Rollins was then infuriated over this announcement, saying Punk doesn’t deserve that and it is all fault of Reigns and Heyman.

Reigns then asked Punk to acknowledge him for making his dream come true, to which he replied saying that this is not the actual favor that Heyman owes him.

This was one of the best contract-signing segments in the history of WWE. The emotions coming out from all four of these men in the ring were pure cinema.

My thoughts on this week’s edition of WWE SmackDown:

This week’s edition of WWE SmackDown was a mix of all good, bad, and downright memories that would be remembered forever. The Tag Team Championship match was pretty much the best match of the night with Street Profits retaining tag gold. WWE used a lot of the show to work on the WrestleMania 41.

The show itself was just another Friday night but Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk segment was in my opinion one of the best contract singing segments ever. The pure emotions from all four of them literally stole the show. Punk getting a chance to live his dream, while Rollins and Heyman poured out their emotions — it was the most beautiful thing that a fan could have asked for. It is certainly going to live rent-free in my memories forever.
