WWE SummerSlam 2024 – Match Card, Rumours and Predictions

WWE SummerSlam 2024 is an upcoming annual PLE that is set to take place on August 3, 2024, at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio.

WWE has been pushing the boundaries of SummerSlam for the last few years now with WrestleMania-level matches and huge returns. This year marks the 37th annual edition for the biggest party of the summer and WWE is all ready to take to the heights never been before but with a twist.

On May 23, 2024, Triple H made an appearance at the WWE Experience attraction in Saudi Arabia and announced that the winners of both the King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring tournaments would receive a match for the world championship of their respective brand at SummerSlam.

But before we get there I want to share everything you need to know related to the match card for this upcoming show.

SummerSlam Match Card: Quick Hits

Damian Priest (c) vs. Gunther – World Heavyweight Championship

After winning the King of the Ring tournament in May, Gunther became the number-one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. But who would he face wasn’t confirmed as the World Heavyweight Championship was still in balance between Priest, McIntyre, and Rollins.

After successfully defending the championship Priest is now headed to face the biggest match and the most brutal match of his career against the ‘King of The Ring’ The Ring General Gunthar at WWE SummerSlam 2024.

Priest and Gunther had faceoff on a recent episode of Raw which certainly developed the character of Damian Priest heading into this match.

This upcoming match is very important for the careers of both these men. If Damian loses his championship, what will be his status in the Judgement Day? If Gunther loses this opportunity what will the future hold for the Ring General?

My Prediction: Gunther

Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax – WWE Women’s Championship

Nia Jax won the Queen of the Ring tournament by crushing through all of the women’s division, earning herself a shot at the WWE Women’s Championship. Bayley who successfully defended her championship against Piper Niven is now set to face Nia Jax at the WWE SummerSlam 2024.

Both of the superstars are set to battle each other but they can’t ignore the fact that Ms. Money in the Bank Tiffany Stratton is looking to find any opportunity to cash in her contract

My Prediction: Bayley

Liv Morgan (c) vs. Rhea Ripley – Women’s World Championship

I have been waiting for this match for two years, in my opinion, this match should’ve happened at WrestleMania XL.

Liv and Morgan share a long history together as they were once a tag team in WWE before losing it to Sasha Banks & Naomi back in the April 18, 2022 episode of RAW. It was what happened after the match when Reha attacked Liv from behind and delivered her Riptide.

Since that moment the two had a long historic beef against each other. The two women also faced each other as the final two in the 2023 Women’s Royal Rumble match, where Ripley headscissored Morgan to the floor to win the match.

Liv got injured last year on the July 24, 2023, episode of Monday Night Raw from an attack from Reha Ripley.

Liv then made a comeback on Royal Rumble 2024 after almost 6 months and started her “Liv Morgan Revenge Tour.” Unfortunately for Liv, she was not able to make it to WrestleMania after being the runner-up in both the 2024 Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber.

Liv finally got her vengeance on Reha when she attacked her backstage on Raw and injured her to vacate her championship on the following week. Reha then defeated the new Women’s World Champion Becky Lynch to win the championship for herself finally.

Morgan then found her way to The Judgment Day’s locker room and her influence allowed Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh to become World Tag Team Champions.

Liv then set her eyes on Dominik Mysterio by putting him in comprising positions. Liv also kissed the man on several occasions on live TV and even got on top of him.

It was Priest who finally called up Reha to come back from her injury to handle this matter. I think this rivalry has a lot more to offer and we might see a returning “Custody of Dominik Mysterio Match” in the near future.

Logan Paul (c) vs. LA Knight – WWE United States Championship

Both Knight and Paul have been stuck in each other’s paths for months now. Even so, Knight decided to invite himself to a pool party at Paul’s house. The tension between the two men has been increasing as late ever since Knight pinned the U.S. Champion during a Money in the Bank Triple Threat Qualifying Match.

Although Knight was unsuccessful in winning the Money in the Bank ladder match, he appeared on the following episode of SmackDown and challenged Paul to a United States Championship match stating that he had pinned the champion.

A contract signing was then held on the July 19 episode of SmackDown to make the match official in Paul’s native area of Cleveland for SummerSlam.

Sami Zayn (c) vs. Bron Breakker – WWE Intercontinental Championship

Since becoming the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania XL, Zain’s journey is been stacked with a line of opponents that are hungry for their moment. Breaker has been terrorizing the scenes ever since arriving on Monday Night Raw.

Zayn and Breakker both went face-to-face at WWE Money in the Bank in Toronto, where Zayn emerged victorious. But Breakker wasn’t done there, ever since losing to Sami in Toronto Breakker viciously targeted both Zayn and Ilja Dragunov over the next few weeks in pursuit of capturing the Intercontinental Championship.

Breakker then faced and defeated Dragunov to earn himself another opportunity to face Zayn at SummerSlam.

My Prediction: Sami Zayn

CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre – Seth “Freakin” Rollins will serve as the special guest referee

CM Punk made his long-awaited return to WWE after nearly 10 at Survivor Series: WarGames in November 2023 in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Although the return of The Second City Saint was well appreciated by the WWE Universe, there were two men in that building that night who were having none of that. Yes, you guessed that right.

Both McIntyre and Rollins were furious about the return and began feuding with Punk. Rollins who was simply not ready to accept Punk’s return began his beef with him at that very night, right after his WarGames match.

Punk then entered the Royal Rumble match earlier this year in the hope of winning the match and challenging Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XL. But unfortunately, he legitimately tore his right tricep during that match.

After CM Punk got injured in the Rumble, Drew made some harsh comments about Punk and said that he prayed for it to happen.

Following the unfortunate departure of CM Punk from the WrestleMania card, McIntyre won the men’s Elimination Chamber match at Perth to face Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XL.

CM Punk who had his issues with both Rollins and McIntyre in the buildup to WrestleMania was made a guest commentator for their match at WrestleMania XL. Luckily at WrestleMania, everything went well during their match for McIntyre and he defeated Rollins to win the Championship.

After the match, Drew got a little bit carried away in the moment and decided to celebrate his victory on the announce table right in front of CM Punk. Punk then attacked McIntyre, and man he beat the holy hell out him. This allowed Priest to cash in his Money in the Bank contract and end McIntyre’s reign in just under six minutes.

McIntyre then challenged Priest to a World Heavyweight Title Match at WWE Clash at the Castle, where Punk interfered once again costing him the championship in his hometown.

McIntyre then made an announcement to Quit WWE, only to return on the following episode of SmackDown where he attacked Punk. McIntyre also stole a bracelet from Punk that represented his love for his wife and dog.

He then competed in a Money In The Match, where he eventually won the contract to challenge for a Championship match once again. Drew who was just not in the mood for waiting, cashed in his contract on that very same night in a match between Priest and Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship.

But, once again Punk interfered in that match and cost McIntyre his contract and the World Heavyweight Championship. After the match, Rollins was furious with Punk saying that he cost him that match as well. 

To which Punk said: “I’m sorry, I apologize.”

Punk also said: “But because it’s you, I can’t really be that sorry, can l?”

After all of this, Punk appeared on a recent episode of Raw on July 22nd and announced that he is now medically cleared and ready to return to the in-ring action. 

Pearce then made the match official for SummerSlam between The Second City Saint and The Scottish Warrior with with Rollins appointed as the special guest referee.

I think that it would be awesome if this storyline somehow goes a little bit further and we can have a Triple Threat Match between all three of these men at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. I think this match will blow the roof of the Allegiant Stadium.

My Prediction: I think it will be either “No Contest” or CM Punk will win.

Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Solo Sikoa – Undisputed WWE Championship “Bloodline Rules Match”

Cody might have defeated Roman Reigns in probably the biggest WrestleMania main event of all time but his story with The Bloodline is far from over. Ever since losing his championship to Cody, Roman is nowhere to be seen on WWE TV.

During his absence Solo Sikoa has taken over his place as “The New Tribal Chief”, and now he’s set to challenge Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam.

Solo ruthlessly attacked his brother Jimmer Uso and Roman’s wiseman Paul Heyman adding new members to the Bloodline such as Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa – sons of the legendary Haku. Along with a new enforcer for himself Jacob Fatu.

Solo has made his intentions clear ever since he pinned Rhodes in a Six-Man Tag Team Match at WWE Money in the Bank that he coming for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Rhodes recently proposed the matchup himself in a faceoff with Solo.

WWE has been cooking up this storyline for a while now, and I think that Roman will make his return at SummerSlam this year. Even Triple H has also teased himself that Roman would have an even bigger storyline in the coming months.

Rhodes and Solo had a face-off just one night before the SummerSlam on SmackDown where Solo proposed a “Bloodline Rules Match” stipulation to which Cody agreed.

My thoughts on WWE SummerSlam 2024

WWE SummerSlam 2024 is going to be a huge event for WWE this year. The build-up to matches is been insane in the last few months.
