Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is a newly released Indian Netflix series by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The story of the series showcases the life of Tawaifs who live in the red light of Lahore, Pakistan, and their relations with Indian nawabs and the British government.
This 8-part series is filled with Love, Hate, and Rebluis hearts fighting for the freedom of their lives. This is my non-spoiler review after watching the complete series.
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar – Storyline
The storyline of this larger-than-life series centers around the character of “Mallikajaan” who rules over the courtesans of Heeramandi including two of her daughters Bibbojaan and Alamzeb. Her power and possession get under threat when the daughter of her late nemesis “Fareedan” returns to challenge her to take away all of her wealth and power.
The series also sheds light on the characters of freedom fighters who are battling against the British Raj for the freedom of their lives.
The story will take for a ride of emotions when the Queen of Lahore aligns themself with the rebels to fight against the British Raj even when the Nawabs turn their back on them from the fear of death.

The creation of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar
The creator of Heeramandi “Sanjay Leela Bhansali” sat in an interview with IMDb and discussed the creation of his newly released series on Netflix. He talked about how he created the series in his words he said: “It was like making three big-sized, four big-sized films”. He also told us how the story took 18 years to make with 14 years of planning.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali also reflected on the fact that how this idea was always on his mind and after every film he would think about creating Heeramandi. Also shared about the struggle of creating Heeramandi in two or two and half hours of film.
The story of Heeramandi was so vast that it was not possible to highlight every character completely in a film and that was why he decided to make a series out of it.
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar | Official Trailer
This is the official trailer of the Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. This epic series is written by Moin Baig, and directed by the legendary Indian director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Mitakshara Kumar.
My Thoughts:
I think Heeramandi is the best ever OTT work ever from any of the Indian filmmakers. The series is filled with so many different characters their stories and then their stories combined with the stories of other characters. It is simply a work of art, and speaking of that how can one deny the fact that this series had one of the best sets of this era?
I simply loved watching every second of this epic saga. Let us know your thoughts regarding the series in the comments below.
