Money in the Bank matches are always full of excitement, from high-flying moments to snapping ladders in half is always incredible to watch. The first-ever Money in the Bank took place at WrestleMania 21 in 2005. It was Chris Jericho who invented the concept for the match.
A match with nearly 20 years of history has been a reason to produce some of the biggest moments in the history of WWE just like “The Heist of the Century by Seth Rollins” at WrestleMania 31. That’s the topic for some other day, today I want to share with you my list of Top 10 Money in the Bank matches in the history of WWE.
10. Money in the Bank 2010 | World Heavyweight Championship match
First on our list is the SmackDown money in the match-up from Money in the Bank 2010. This was the first time that a Money in the Bank matchup was held outside WrestleMania and was also given its own Pay-Per-View.
Every superstar competing in the match put it all on the line to win the MITB and change their careers forever. One of the key highlights from the match was when “The World’s Largest Athlete” The Big Show introduced the 350-pound jumbo ladder. The ladder was strong enough to support more than 1,000 pounds but unfortunately for the Big Show, it was Kane who climbed the ladder to win the MITB briefcase for himself.
Kane held the contract for 49 minutes before successfully cashes in on Rey Mysterio.

09. Money in the Bank 2018 | Winner’s Brand Women’s Championship match
Womens MITB 2018 is the most star-studded Money in the Bank ladder matchup in the history of WWE in my opinion. The match featured absolute legends from the women’s division fighting it all out to win the championship opportunity.
It was the fourth overall match on the show. The match had a lot of incredible moments including at the start of the match when Ember Moom performed a Somersault Senton on Lynch and slammed Banks through a ladder with a Springboard Dive. The match also had a moment where Natalya executed a Slingshot Powerbomb on Sasha Banks.
It was Alexa Bliss who won the match after taking out Lynch in the closing moments of the match. Bliss held the contract for 2 hours and 52 minutes before successfully cashes in on Nia Jax.

08. Money in the Bank 2021 | WWE World Championship match
Returning from the pandemic to a live audience this was the first WWE PPV with a full crowd since the march of 2020. The match featured some of the biggest superstars from the entire roaster including 3 former WWE Champions and a former MITB winner Seth Rollins.
Some of the key highlights from the match were when at one point during the match when McIntyre climbed the ladder to retrieve the briefcase he was attacked by his former buddy Jinder Mahal from 3MB with a steel chair.
Riddle and Owens went on to put a clinic by performing the RKO and Stunner, respectively, on a few competitors.
In the closing moments of the match, Owens was pulled off from the ladder by Rollins before delivering a Powerbomb on him through a ladder placed between the ring apron and the announce table.
It was Big E who won the match after performing the Big Ending on Rollins off the ladder who was trying to get to the briefcase.
Big E held the contract for 57 days before successfully cashes in on Bobby Lashley.

07. Money in the Bank 2023 | Women’s Championship match
Women’s MITB 2023 is one of the best matchups from the women’s division in my opinion. The match featured some of the top-tier superstars from the women’s division including a few up-and-comers and future legends in the making.
If I talk about the match itself it contained a lot of awesome moments including a spot where Sky and Bayley ascended opposite sides of a ladder before tipping it over. Trish Stratus who had her own issues with Becky headscissored her into the corner.
Lynch and Sky worked together to momentarily subdue Stratus while Vega took the opportunity to use Stratus as a bridge between two ladders to climb the taller one. Sky then delivered her signature Moonsault off the ladder onto the other women while Vega leaped off a ladder onto Lynch.
Stark and Stratus who came into the match as a team decided to outnumber “The Man” Becky Lynch and put a handcuff on one of her wrists. But Lynch had other plans as she cleared the announce table and sent Stratus over it. Lynch wasn’t over yet as she then placed a ladder as a bridge between the commentary table and the ring apron and performed her signature Manhandle Slam on Stratus onto the ladder.
Stark and Vega then took their opportunity to win the MITB as they both climbed the opposite sides of the ladder in the middle of the ring before Vega performed a Code Red on Stark onto a bridged ladder. Sky took this opportunity to climb the ladder but her teammate Bayley tipped her over. Bayley then ascended the ladder for herself before Lynch used the handcuffs to knock her down.
Lynch was then interpreted by Sky as she was closing in on the victory. Sky knocked her down, handcuffed her to Bayley, and hung both womens down together between the ladder’s steps to retrieve the briefcase for herself.
Iyo Sky held the contract for 35 days before successfully cashes in on Bianca Belair.
Winner: Iyo Sky

06. Money in the Bank 2016 | WWE World Heavyweight Championship match
MITB 2016 was one of the most insane and crazy nights in the history of this PPV. It was Dean Ambrose who won the match by knocking Owens onto a ladder bridged between another ladder and the ring corner before retrieving the MITB for himself.
But, the night was not yet over for Ambrose. In the main event, Seth Rollins faced and defeated Roman Reigns to win the World Heavyweight Championship. But right when Seth won the match Dean’s music started to play. Rollins who set his eyes on the entranceway waiting for him got attacked from behind with the Money in the Bank briefcase.
Ambrose then delivered his signature Dirty Deeds to win the match. It was that only night when all three members of The Shield held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Dean Ambrose held the contract for 57 minutes before successfully cashes in on Seth Rollins.
Winner: Dean Ambrose

05. Money in the Bank 2019 | WWE World Championship match
MITB 2019 matchup was the main event of the night, but with all scheduled superstars participating in the match there was no announcement made regarding Sami Zayn’s replacement. The match then took place with the remaining superstars.
Some of the key highlights from the match include an epic Sunset Flip Powerbomb from the top of a ladder on Bálor onto another ladder by Andrade and a Spanish Fly from the top of the ladder on Andrade by Ali.
The mean opportunistic Baron Corbin then chokeslammed Ali on the announce table and also betrayed his buddy McIntyre after working together throughout the match.
McIntyre then delivered his signature Claymore Kick on Corbin along with a reverse Alabama Slam on Andrade onto Bálor.
Ricochet then stood up against McIntyre and delivered him a Dropkick. But right when he was climbing the ladder McIntyre stopped him in his tracks and just simply threw him outside the ring through another ladder.
Orton then took out McIntyre with an RKO as he was climbing the ladder before Corbin intercepted and sent him into the ring post.
It was Ali who then took the golden opportunity to climb the ladder and retrieve the briefcase for himself. But right when he was about to do that Brock Lesnar made a surprise return as the Raw’s unannounced fourth participant in place of Zayn.
Lesnar just ran to the ring, knocked off Ali who was just about to win, and then climbed the to retrieve the briefcase for himself.
With surprise return and sudden victory, Lesnar became the third wrestler (after Edge and Sheamus) in the history of WWE to win all three Money in the Bank, King of the Ring, and the Royal Rumble in his career.
Brock Lesnar then held the contract for 56 days before successfully cashes in on Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship.

04. Money in the Bank 2013 | WWE Championship match
The 2013 MITB match featured 6 superstars, all former WWE Champions looking to add another championship opportunity into the bag.
Some of the key highlights from the match contain a Rolling Thunder Senton on Bryan by Rob Van Dam onto the ladder.
Sheamus attacked Bryan by executing his signature Beats of the Bodhran thus making him fall off the ladder. Orton then executed an Exploder Suplex on Punk into a ladder, followed by signature Elevated DDT aka Vintage Orton.
A ladder fell over during the match when Van Dam and Christian were trying to get to the briefcase, Van Dam displayed his epic in-ring skills when he leaped onto another ladder and delivered a Five Star Frog Splash on Christian.
Brayn then tried to take advantage of the occasion by driving a ladder against Orton, who was standing in the ring-side corner. Brayn then went rampage by attacking Sheamus with a ladder, causing him to be knocked off from the top rope through a ladder bridged between the ring apron and a broadcast table.
Bryan then made his way up on the ladder to win the match before Curtis Axel attacked him with a steel chair executing a Hangman’s Facebuster on him.
Punk then took out Axel with his signature GTS and went on to retrieve the briefcase for himself. Paul Heyman who was the manager of Punk pushed a ladder into him and assaulted him from behind until he fell down and out.
Van Dam then made his way up to the ladder attempting to retrieve the briefcase before Orton pulled him down and delivered an RKO.
Orton then retrieved the briefcase to win the match.
Randy Orton held the contract for 35 days before successfully cashes in on Danial Brayn.
Winner: Randy Orton

03. WrestleMania 24 | World Heavyweight /WWE /ECW Championship match
Before MITB got its own individual PPV it was held at WrestleMania every year. Superstars from Raw, SmackDown, and ECW at that time would battle it out to get hold of the prize for themself.
The MITB match held at WrestleMania 24 featured some incredible moments that will be talked about for years to come. Some of the key moments from the match include Morrison climbing the turnbuckle to deliver a moonsault onto the other competitors outside the ring while holding a ladder against his chest.
Later in the match, Benjamin climbed a ladder while Kennedy and Morrison were battling on top of it, Benjamin then executed a sunset flip powerbomb on Kennedy who then got hold of the Morrison in the mix and bought him down as well by delivering a superplex.
MVP then took the opportunity to get to the briefcase before Matt Hardy entered the ring from the crowd and delivered a Twist of Fate to MVP off that ladder.
Morrison then took the opportunity for himself to climb a ladder by see-sawing it with another ladder before Jericho and Carlito flipped it over causing Morrison to land on the ring ropes groin-first.
Jericho then went on to perform a Codebreaker on Punk using a ladder.
In the final moments of the match, Jericho and Punk fight each other on a ladder, but Punk traps one of Jericho’s legs into the ladder and retrieves the briefcase to win the match.
CM Punk held the contract for 92 days before successfully cashes in on Edge. CM Punk also won the MITB match the next year as well on WrestleMania 25 and became the first person to win MITB twice in a row.
Winner: CM Punk

02. MITB 2014 | WWE World Heavyweight Championship match
MITB 2014 is arguably the greatest MITB match in the history of WWE. The match featured some of the top-tier superstars from the current up-and-coming roaster as well as some experienced veterans. Wade Barrett was also a part of the match but he got removed by an injury he suffered on the June 27 episode of SmackDown.
Some of the key highlights from the match include a spot where Ambrose a ladder with Kingston on it to fall off the top rope onto Swagger, Ziggler, and Van Dam.
Van Dam then took the opportunity to execute a Rolling Thunder Senton on Rollins, who was lying on a ladder wedged in the ring corner.
Swagger then performed a Powerbomb off a ladder on Van Dam. Ambrose also took his shot and delivered a Suplex off the ladder on Rollins.
Ambrose then injured his shoulder, which led to him being taken backstage by medical personnel.
Kingston then delivered a Back Body Drop on Rollins atop a ladder which caused Rollins to fall onto another ladder bridged between the ladder and the ropes.
Rollins then attempted to retrieve the briefcase after hitting Ziggler with a chair. Rollins then attempted to retrieve the briefcase before Ambrose came back to the ring and Rollins with a chair.
Kane then got into the mix while Ambrose was trying to retrieve the briefcase by executing a Chokeslam and a Tombstone Piledriver on him.
After that Rollins took the opportunity to retrieve the briefcase to win the match.
Rollins held the contract for 273 days before successfully cashes in on Brock Lesner in the main event of WrestleMania 31 to create “The Heist of the Century”.

01. WrestleMania 21 | World Heavyweight Championship match
WrestleMania 21 MITB Match was the first-ever matchup in the history of WWE. The match to this day is mentioned every time someone talks about MITB.
Some of the key moments from the match include a few spots where Jericho, Christian, Benjamin, and Kane all three jumped over the top rope to knock down multiple opponents in different parts of the match.
Benjamin took the opportunity took make a name for himself by attempting a successful T-Bone Suplex on Edge of a Ladder.
He later used an inclined ladder as a ramp to run up and perform a Clothesline on Jericho.
In the ending moments of the match, Benoit climbs a ladder to retrieve the briefcase where he meets Kane who tries to stop him but fails after Benoit executes repeated headbutts to knock him down to the floor.
He then attempted to retrieve the briefcase before Edge took the opportunity to knock him down with the help of a steel chair.
Edge then climbed the ladder and retrieved the briefcase to win the match.
Edge held the contract for 280 days before successfully cashes in on John Cena at New Year’s Revolution 2006.
